You can reach the Col d'Izoard pass from Briançon or Château-Queyras. Below is a proposed route starting in Briançon and climbing up to Col d'Izoard, then descending to Château-Queyras and returning to Embrun via Guillestre.:

We're starting the route according to the map;
- 0,8km: (1219m.a.s.l.) at the roundabout, take the D902 (signposted Col de l'Izoard) - the ascent begins;
- 10,1km: Cervières (1603m.a.s.l.) on the left-hand side, near a large car park, there is a drinking water intake and a catering point with outdoor seating;
- 19km: (2294m.a.s.l.) - Refuge Napoléon du col d'Izoard - a good place for coffee now or on the way back from Col d'Izoard;
- 20km: Col d'Izoard (2360m.a.s.l.) - main destination reached; there is a small grocery store;

- 22km: Louison Bobet/Fausto Coppi monument (2214m.a.s.l.);

- 61,8km: (923m.a.s.l.) turn right slightly uphill onto the D994H - signposted Châteauroux-les-Alpes;
- 64,1km: Châteauroux-les-Alpes (988m.a.s.l.) catering point; on the right-hand side, 100m past the town center, there is a drinking water intake; continue driving on the D994H towards Embrun;
