Col Agnel is located at an altitude of 2744m.a.s.l. The mountain pass can be accessed from Ville-Vieille or from the Italian side. Below is a proposed route starting in Montdauphin-Guillestre (railway station), ascending Col Agnel from Ville-Vieille and returning via Col d'Izoard to Briançon (2360m.a.s.l.):

By regional train, we arrive at Montdauphin-Guillestre from where we start our route according to the map;
- 0,1km: (888m.a.s.l.) after leaving the railway station, turn right onto N94;
- 1,2km: (899m.a.s.l.) at the roundabout, turn left onto D902A - signposted Guillestre;
- 3,9km: (967m.a.s.l.) at the roundabout, turn towards the center of Guillestre (signposted Centre Ville);
- 4,6km: Guillestre (1014m.a.s.l.) on the right is the Le Guil bar, open every day from 7.30am - you can stop for a morning coffee, second breakfast, and refill your water bottles; on the earlier 200m of Rue Maurice Petsche, there are also 2 bakeries (on the right-hand side) open from 6.30am;
- 4,9km: (1040m.a.s.l.) - turn left; signposted La Combe;
- 5,4km: (1074m.a.s.l.) - turn left again onto D902;
- 20,7km: (1355m.a.s.l.) - continue straight - signposted Col Agnel D947; here you can use the B variant of the route, i.e., turn left onto Col d'Izoard - bypassing Col Agnel;
- 22,6km: Château-Queyras (1392m.a.s.l.) - on the right is a gastronomic point, and 50m further is a public toilet and a drinking water tap;
- 25,1km: Ville-Vieille (1372m.a.s.l.) at the roundabout (a shop and a gastronomic point), turn right onto the bridge (signposted Molines - D5); after the bridge, on the right-hand side, there is a public toilet; 100m further, on the left-hand side, on Rue Champ du Four, there is a drinking water tap; while going towards the pass, it's worth choosing a place for lunch on the way back;
- 30,6km: (1729m n.p.m) turn left onto D205 (signposted Pierre Grosse);
- 30,8km: Molines-en-Queyras (1739m.a.s.l.) drinking water tap
- 33,1km: Pierre-Grosse (1913m.a.s.l.) on the left-hand side is a drinking water tap
- 34,9km: Fontgillarde (2003m.a.s.l.) - on the left-hand side, there are 2 drinking water taps - the last ones before Col Agnel;
- 43,9km: Refuge Agnel (2580m.a.s.l.) - information about the catering service on the shelter's website;
- 45,9km: Col Agnel (2744m.a.s.l.) - the main goal achieved;

We descend the same way to:
- 66,6km: Ville-Vieille (1372m.a.s.l.) - a good place for lunch - leave the roundabout on the second exit to the right, onto D89T; the ascent begins;
- 71,1km: (1336m.a.s.l.) - turn right onto D902 (signposted Col de Izoard); here we can also decide to turn back (due to weather, fatigue, etc.) to Montdauphin-Guillestre and take the train to Briançon (then return the same way for another 20.7km);

- 76,4km: La Chalp (1649m.a.s.l.) - food points and on the left, a public toilet;
- 77,7km: (1740m.a.s.l.) food point on the left, and 50m further down the street, also on the left, there is a drinking water source; the steepest 4-kilometer uphill section begins;
- 83,3km: Louison Bobet/Fausto Coppi monument (2214m.a.s.l.);
- 85,3km: Col d'Izoard(2360m.a.s.l.) - second target achieved;
