You can reach the mountain pass from Modane or from the north starting in Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Below is a suggested route starting from Modane, ascending to the Col l'Iseran pass and returning by the same road.

We're starting the route according to mapy;
- 1km: (1077m.a.s.l.) at the roundabout, take the second exit and continue on the D1006 road - signposted for Col d'Iseran;
- 7,3km: (1277m.a.s.l.) on the left, there is a public toilet next to the car park;
- 18,7km: Termignon (1308m.a.s.l.) good place for a coffee break with food options; there is a public toilet on the left before reaching the town center;
- 24,3km: Lanslebourg-Mont-Cenis (1395m.a.s.l.) - plenty of food options and grocery stores; there is a drinking water intake on the right;
- 24,9km: (1396m.a.s.l.) continue straight on the D902 road - signposted for Col de l'Iseran; the ascent to Col de la Madeleine begins;
- 27,4km: Lanslevillard (1468m.a.s.l.) a drinking water intake and food option on the left;
- 31,6km: Col de la Madeleine (1746m.a.s.l.) - continue on;
- 34,2km: (1684m.a.s.l.) take the comfortable left turn towards Bessans (D902A road);
- 36,2km: (1715m.a.s.l.) another opportunity for a coffee break, at Place de la Mairie;
- 36,9km: (1733m.a.s.l.) get back on the D902 road;
- 44,3km: Bonneval-sur-Arc (1804m.a.s.l.) food options and the last drinking water intake before Col de l'Iseran; the ascent becomes steeper from here;
- 57,1km: Col de l’Iseran (2770m.a.s.l.) - the destination is reached;
