Below is a suggested route starting in Bormio, climbing Passo di Gavia, then returning the same way to Santa Caterina and climbing to Rifugio Forni (2176m.a.s.l.) before returning to Bormio:

We start following the mapy;
- 0,4km: Bormio (1204m.a.s.l.) turn right onto the SS300 road;
- 4,7km: Sant'Antonio (1337m.a.s.l.) one of the drinking water sources is on the right side behind the bridge, and all sources are marked on mapy.cz; a gastronomic point - a place for early coffee now or on the way back;
- 12,4km: Santa Caterina (1736m.a.s.l.) gastronomic points - the last ones before Passo di Gavia; po lewej on the left side at the end of the parking lot, there is a drinking water source;
- 25,9km: Passo di Gavia (2618m.a.s.l.) destination achieved; time for coffee/lunch at Rifugio Bonetta - outside the building on the western side, there is a tap with drinking water;

We return to Santa Caterina the same way;
- 39,2km: Santa Caterina (1739m.a.s.l.) turn right (attention - pedestrian zone) and after 100m, turn right again behind the river; the climb through the del Forni valley begins;
- 44,7km: Rifugio Forni (2176m.a.s.l.) - a good place for coffee/lunch;
